Friday Flashbacks

Happy Friday, friends.  I've felt like a big bag of garbage this week.  So to cheer myself up and try to help myself forget the nagging pain in almost every inch of my body, I threw on a few throwback tracks of some of the fun and funky songs of my youth.  Join my 90s high school dance party.

15 Things to Work on in 2016

It would appear that I have some things to work on this year.

1.  CARE LESS -- about things that don't matter or don't make you feel good.
2.  CARE MORE -- about the things that do matter.
3.  CHANGE IS GOOD -- resist the natural urge to fight it.  Instead, try to remember that almost       every great thing in your life started with an unexpected change that you initially may not have           wanted.
4.  SURROUND YOURSELF -- with good people who gives you good vibes.  Get away from those   who don't.
5.  COMPARING YOURSELF -- to others is useless and exhausting.  Someone else's story will         never be your own.
6.  CONTROL -- what you can.  Let go of what you can't.
7.  NO ONE -- has it all figured out.  Some people are just better at faking it.
8.  ORDINARY PEOPLE -- create awesome shit every day.  Why not you?
9.  LESS EXCUSES, MORE DOING -- If you spent even half as much time working as you do         complaining, you probably wouldn't have much to complain about.
10. LISTEN -- to that nagging voice inside you, urging you to take that leap.
11. THE UNIVERSE -- doesn't hoard success.  Neither should you.
12. HANGING ON -- to anger and jealousy is like walking around with hot coal in your hands.  By   the time you find the person you want to throw it at, you're the only one that's been burned.
13. PEOPLE -- don't just "get their moment".  They work for it; and usually damn hard.
14. KICK YOUR EGO -- to the curb.  It can hang out there with fear and doubt.  They're all in the       same annoying family anyway.
15. RIGHT NOW -- the biggest obstacle is yourself.  But it doesn't have to be.

"Work like you don't need money", and other garbage phrases I don't agree with.

So there has been A LOT of talk lately around the water cooler, etc, about what you would do if you won the lottery (This past week's insane Powerball numbers may have had something to do with that).

A popular sub-theme with this would be the "would you or wouldn't you" game when it comes to whether or not you would remain part of the working world.  This leads in to our first "commonplace" phrase that irritates the Hell out of me:

"Work like you don't need the money" --  Uh......what???  If I didn't need money, my happy ass wouldn't be working AT ALL.  I would become a nomad....travelling the world from one end to the other.

"Everything happens for a reason" --  This is a no brainer, and therefore a stupid and pointless phrase.  Bad things happen to good people, and bad things happen to bad people.  Good things also happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people.  Shit just happens.

"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" -- Okay....who actually says this???  I mean, seriously; I would write an ENTIRE post on the things that taste better than skinny feels.   Also, you don't have to be skinny to "feel good".  (Which, again, is probably a post unto itself).

"Blood is thicker than water" -- there really is a difference between being "related" and being "family".  Having the same genes as somebody doesn't automatically equal a free pass to being important.

"Money is the root of all evil" --  Now, this is just a flat out lie.  People are the root of all evil.  Don't blame your shitty attitude/actions on anyone/anything other than yourself.

Holiday Hoopla Pt 2

Christmas Day was a wonderful celebration of fun, friends, and family togetherness.  We started out the day actually sleeping in until 9:00.  (apparently a perk of having older kids).  Gifts were opened and thoroughly enjoyed.  The biggest hit this year were definitely the hoverboards.  Chris and Amber came down for dinner and stayed the night.  We were up into the wee hours eating, drinking, playing games and just enjoying each other as a family.
